Oneing: Ripening

James presented a book review of Oneing: Ripening by Richard Rohr.  The book is a collection of essays.  He will continue the review next Sunday.

"Oneing" is an old English word that was used by Lady Julian of Norwich (1342-1416) to describe the encounter between God and the soul.  In this edition of Oneing we come to understand the sanctity of the ripening (aging) process from master teachers who offer us ways to "learn to live well." The word "ripening" is the theme of this edition of Oneing and hopefully will move us beyond any exclusive concern with physical aging.

Joan Chittister said, "The purpose of life in a society such as ours is to ward off death, keep hair from greying at all costs, and hide wrinkles.  It is a sterile land, full of fraud, steeped in the superficial, and bereft of the real tastes and lessons of life."

I pray we find the "purpose of maturity and the willingness to grow through every stage of life until the human spiritual compass has been honed to a fine point."

Be sure to come next week for more of the book review.

Announcements and prayer requests:
  • Kelly is doing great after surgery!  Praise God!
  • Tom is out of the hospital and resting at home.
  • Roy and Toni ask prayers for their son who is traveling to Istanbul.
Have a great week, ripening in the Lord!
